With 42 new COVID-19 cases, Kerala recorded its highest ever number confirmed in a day on May 22. Announcing the numbers, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state touched 732 with 217 active cases. The CM also condoled the death of Kadeejakutty, who died of coronavirus in Thrissur.
The rising number of COVID cases are being reported among those coming from abroad and other states. Out of the 42 coronavirus positive cases, 17 had returned from abroad, 21 had from Maharashtra while one each had from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. One person from Kannur contracted the disease through contact while one health worker from Kozhikode was also tested positive on Friday. 2 people tested negative for the disease.
As most people returning from the middle-east have tested positive so far, the number is likely to go up even further with more flights expected in the coming days.
