Covid-19 may have got a solid treatment that has been discovered by Indian scientists. Favipiravir, an antiviral drug, is said to be effective in treating coronavirus patients.
Indian pharma giant Glenmark is at the forefront of experimenting the drug. Phase three of clinical trials using the antiviral drug are on. So far, the results have been encouraging.
"As many as 150 Covid-19 patients were enrolled in a randomized study at multiple sites in the country. This was meant to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Favipiravir. As many as 90 cases were mild, while 60 were moderate. Thanks to the treatment, their condition did not deteriorate to severe or critical stages," the company has been quoted as saying.
"Most patients gradually recovered in a week, while other patients took almost two weeks to recover," Business Line reported on Saturday.
The company's drug is named FabiFlu. The report adds that it will be on sale at retail pharmacies and hospitals later this month. The drug will be sold only with doctors’ prescriptions.
