With the airlines industry getting affected terribly because of Covid-19, even IndiGo, which is India's largest private airlines, has not remained unfazed. The company has laid off 10% of its workforce in the face of a heavy cash crunch in the industry. This is the first time that the airlines company has resorted to such kind of retrenchment in its history.

Do the laid-off employees get any pay? They will be getting both a notice pay and severance pay. Besides, the affected employees will receive at least three months’ gross salary.

Due to the pandemic and the needed social distancing norms, domestic airlines have been allowed to operate with 45% capacity only. IndiGo has been operating only a small percentage of its full fleet of 250 airplanes since May 25.

Not just IndiGo but also SpiceJet, GoAir and Air India have reduced the salaries of their employees. Many of their employees have been sent o leave until further notice.
