Earlier this week, the Narendra Modi deployed "high-level multi-disciplinary teams" in order to render assistance to at least 15 States/UTs that have got a high caseload in several districts and municipalities. The COVID-19 containment strategies of these districts have apparently failed, going by the incidence of infections in them.
Telangana is also among the 15 States. A central team has reportedly studied the situation in Hyderabad and warned that the situation will become extremely serious by the end of July if the spread of Covid-19 is not controlled.
As per a report by Deccan Chronicle, the virus is spreading at an "alarming rate" in GHMC, as per the central team. "If unchecked, the city will be in a major crisis soon," the team is reported to have conveyed to the state government.
Telangana's testing strategy has been abysmal. "As of June 2, the State had tested only 31,721 samples. Of these, 14,500 samples were from Hyderabad," a media report quoting the data submitted by the government to the High Court says.
Recently, the Delhi government predicted that there will be at least 5.5 lakh cases in Delhi by July 31. There is no such estimate about Hyderabad.
