COVID-19: 15 new cases confirmed in Kerala

With 15 new positive cases of Coronavirus reported on Sunday, the total number of Coronavirus infected persons under treatment in Kerala has risen to 67. Of the 15 new cases, five cases are from Kasaragod, four from Kannur and two each from Ernakulam, Malappuram, and Kozhikode. The numbers were officially announced by the state Health Minister K K Shailaja. This is the highest number of positive cases reported on a single day in the state.
All the five newly infected people in Kasaragod had recently returned from the Gulf. They are of the age group 58, 27, 32, 41 and 33 hailing from Nellikkunnu, Vidyanagar, Chandragiri, Marakkappu beach and Chenkala regions. Three of the 67 patients who were infected are reportedly cured and discharged from the hospital. The rest of the 64 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals across the state.
Given the gravity of the epidemic situation in Kasargode, the government has imposed a total shutdown without disrupting essential services. At present, 59,295 people are being kept under observation. While 58,981 are under home quarantine and 314 persons have been admitted to isolation wards at various hospitals.
The government had also banned inter-State travel and advised people to restrict their journeys to neighbouring districts. All the places of worship are banned from crowding and restricted to stick to religious rites alone.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Department of Fire and Rescue Services personnel on Sunday were on a mission to disinfect the state as the whole of Kerala was under a self-imposed lockdown in an effort to curb the spread of coronavirus.
