The official updates for COVID 19 today is once again depressing as 743 new patients have tested positive in Tamil Nadu in the past twenty four hours among which Chennai has contributed 557.  83 of the new cases are people who returned to the state from Maharashtra. Three persons have lost their lives today raising the total death toll to 87.  There are now 13,191 in the state with Chennai accounting for 8228 of them.

On the positive side, 987 patients have been discharged today taking the total recoveries number to 5882. Coimbatore, Erode, Namakkal, Salem, Tiruppur, and The Nilgiris are among the districts that have reported zero cases for the consecutive fifth day.

11,894 samples and 11,441 individuals were tested today out of 3,60,068 tested till date. 566 samples are under process and the worrying factor is that 803 children under the age of 12 have affected so far.
