Chennai for the first time surpassed the two thousand mark in new coronavirus cases after 2167 reported today. Cases are increasing at an alarming rate in the rest of the state too as the total TN count today is a staggering 3949 new cases. The state now has 86,224 patients so far with the capital city accounting fo 55,969 of them. The death toll has increased to 1141 after 62 persons lost their lives in the past twenty-four hours.

On the positive side 30,005 tests were conducted today and the total number of 1.14 Million tests conducted in TN is the highest in India so far. 2212 patients have been discharged today raising up the total number of recoveries to 47,749.

With only a day left for the fifth lockdown to end and the current situation in TN it is said that the expert panel has advised the government to firm up restrictions in the worst-hit cities and zones and the official statement is expected any time now.
