COVID 19 Update - Recoveries surpass new cases for the first time today in TN

For the first time since the COVID 19 pandemic gained momentum in Tamil Nadu four months back 5000 patients got discharged today while 4,496 persons tested positive in the past twenty-four hours. The total number of cases in the state now is 1,51,820 out of whom 1,02,310 have recovered. The death toll has risen to 2167 after 68 persons lost their lives to the virus in the past twenty-four hours.
Chennai recorded 1291 new cases which is marginally higher than the past two days and the total number of cases in the capital is 80961 with 1318 deaths. The city is entering its tenth day since the lockdown has been relaxed and it remains to be seen if there will be higher increases in the coming days.
After Chennai the highest number of new cases are from Madurai- 341 while Thiruvallur & Tuticorin have 250+ cases and Chengalpet, Coimbatore, Dindigul, Kanchipuram, Kanyakumari, Ramnad, Sivagangai, Thiruvannamalai, Tirunelveli and Virudhunagar have recorded 100+ cases. A slightly lower number of 39,715 persons were tested today.
