Tamil Nadu today achieved the highest number of COVID 19 tests on 24,621 persons and 25,463 samples which have produced the highest single-day spike of 2174 new cases in the state. Chennai which reported below the 1000 mark yesterday has bounced back to report 1276 new cases as well. There are now 50,193 cases in the state while the capital city has 35,556. The death toll has risen to 576 after another high number of 48 patients succumbing to the deadly virus.

842 patients have been discharged today raising the tally of recoveries to 27,624. Erode and Tirupur have not reported any case today with only one active case among the two while The Nilgiris which maintained zero for the past one month has 5 new cases today with 22 overall.

7,37,787 individuals have been tested in Tamil Nadu so far among whom 2533 children under the age of 12. With the government opting for total lockdown from June 18th midnight to June 30th there could be a change in the alarming coronavirus statistics.
