The Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) headed by R.K. Selvamani today met Kadambur Raju, the Minister for Information and Publicity and submitted a petition seeking the consideration for reopening movie theaters and also allow film shootings to resume. The government has already allowed the resumption of postproduction activities.
Selvamani who also handed over a cheque for rupees ten lakhs twenty five thousand to the Chief Minister's relief fund later stated that the meeting with the minister was positive and he was informed that the matter would be discussed with the CM and action taken accordingly.
It has been proposed that shootings inside houses and at studios be allowed where social distancing and hygiene can be controlled. Further, no one except the cast and crew will be allowed inside and hence chances of catching the COVID 19 is minimal. Only when shootings are conducted outdoors large crowds gather to watch and that could pose a problem.
Industry sources say that film shooting could resume as early as June 1st but reopening theaters could take a longer time as the government, for now, is against gatherings that are more than fifty in number.
