The government on Wednesday put out information for the general public in India on Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ). It has said that HCQ is only for the below-mentioned categories and not for the general public:
Patients who have been clinically advised;
Health workers at risk due to their direct contact with Covid-19 patients;
Household contacts of confirmed Covid-19 cases.
"It's harmful to consume HCQ without a prescription, as it may have adverse effects on your health," the statement says.
India has got enough of HCQ:
Is there anything to worry about HCQ stocks in India? "Our current production capacity of Hydroxychloroquine is 35-40 crore tablets a month. This is 10 times more than our requirement. There is no shortage of HCQ in India," Viranchi Shah, Chairman, Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association (Gujarat chapter), recently said.
