Covid-19 effect: India readies 461,589 hectares to attract companies

A total area of 461,589 hectares has been identified across the country for the purpose, a Bloomberg report says, quoting some unnamed officials in the Central government. Prime Minister Modi and several States are said to be part of this pro-active effort to offer land to companies moving out of China to establish their manufacturing base in India.

About 115,131 hectares of existing industrial land in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, among other States, have been readied.

The government wants to ensure transparent and speedy land acquisition so that investors are attracted to invest in India. Providing land with power, water and road access are the government's focus areas, the report claims.

Electrical, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, electronics, heavy engineering, solar equipment, food processing, chemicals and textiles are the priority sectors under consideration, reports published in Economic Times, among others, say.
