The multi-lingual web series 'Veerappan' won't be released on any OTT platform or YouTube as per a Bengaluru city civil and sessions court order. The court has stalled its release after the slain sandalwood smuggler's wife V Muthulakshmi approached the court.
As per the wife of the forest brigand, her husband has been shown in a poor light in the web series. She believes that the makers have relied on false and fabricated stories in depicting the life and activities of Veerappan.
The Karnataka High Court has reportedly granted an ex-parte ad-interim order. There is now an injunction against the release of the web series until further notice. The next hearing is slated for February 6.
Who is Veerappan?
He was a bandit who poached elephants and smuggled sandalwood in the forests of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. Veerappan infamously kidnapped Rajkumar in 2000 and released him after 108 days.
After several years of attempts by the police of TN and Karnataka, he was killed in 2004 in an encounter. His wife is said to have married him only because he was notorious and sported a grand moustache.
