Actor Vishal is restricted by the Court to release the films produced or financed by him in cinemas or OTT platforms. The Madras High Court's judgement in a case filed by Lyca came as a shock to the film industry.
Vishal took a loan of ₹15 crores from Anbuchezhian of Gopuram Films for the movie 'Marudhu' in 2016. Lyca Productions took over the loan and repaid ₹21.29 cores in 2019 with liability and interest when the actor was unable to settle the loan. He was supposed to repay the loan amount to Lyca with 30% interest per annum as per the agreement.
The production house filed a lawsuit in 2021 as Vishal failed to stick to the agreement. Then, the liability of the actor rose to over ₹30 crores along with interest. The Madras High Court ordered him to deposit ₹15 crores in the account of the high court registry. The films funded by Vishal are restrained from releasing in theatres or OTTs if he fails to pay the amount.
