The Egmore court has remanded Actress Kasturi Shankar following her arrest for making controversial comments about the Telugu community. Kasturi's remarks were made during a Brahmin gathering in Tamil Nadu. The actress stated that Telugu people had arrived in the region 300 years ago to serve in royal harems and were now claiming to be Tamils while enjoying power.
These comments sparked significant outrage in both Tamil Nadu and the Telugu states, with objections raised by Telugu communities and political groups, including the Telangana BJP. Kasturi later issued a public apology.
Despite her apology, the backlash continued. Leaders of Telugu communities in various districts across Tamil Nadu lodged multiple complaints. After her arrest in Hyderabad, the court remanded her to judicial custody until the 29th of this month.
Additionally, the Madras High Court rejected Kasturi's attempt to secure anticipatory bail in a related case filed by the Madurai police.
