There’s a limit to freedom of speech, court tells Pa Ranjith!

Before few weeks, director Pa Ranjith of Kaala, Kabali and Madras fame had spoke during an event held at Thirupanandhal in Thanjavur, where he had spoken in a controversial manner against Chola King Raja Raja Chola, and said his rule was a dark phase for Tamil Nadu.

He had also said that in his tenure the lands of people were grabbed, and women were ill treated, and following these statements by Pa Ranjith, cases were filed against him in two police stations. Ranjith had applied for anticipatory bail to avoid an arrest.

During the court hearing, Chennai high court’s Madurai branch judge Bharathidasan questioned Pa Ranjith that even though there is freedom of speech, is there no limit and also questioned on what intention he had spoken that Raja Raja Cholan had seized lands of scheduled castes  and demanded Ranjith to submit a report with the answers for the same.
