A Metropolitan Court in Bengaluru has sent a notice to Superstar Rajinikanth following a petition filed by IMS Manivannan, a social activist. The petitioner has alleged that thousands of litres of milk are being squandered away by Rajini's fans, who drench it on the his cutouts.
The Superstar's diehard fans celebrate the release of his films, his birthday, and wedding day by commissioning huge cutouts and performing 'pal abhishekams' as a mark of reverence toward their matinee idol. This has been objected by Manivannan in his petition, stating that many families in India are starving to get milk for their children as the protein rich product is an essential food for children and that, on the other hand, thousands of litres of milk goes down the drain this way.
Today the judge has admitted the petition for hearing and he has a sent a notice to Rajinikanth asking him to file his reply about the wastage of milk happening in his name during the above mentioned occasions every year.
The act of pouring milk on cutouts of stars is purely sentimental and fans of almost all the past, present and future stars across South India resort to this practice to show their excessive affection or their devotion. It has to be seen as to what verdict the court will give. On the face of it, the petition doesn't stand legal scrutiny.
