Recently, a PIL was filed with the Allahabad High Court seeking directions to restrain the conduct of Bhoomi Puja in Ayodhya on August 5. The Puja is meant for laying down the foundation stone of Ram Temple. The much-awaited event will be graced by Narendra Modi.
The PIL said that the Bhoomi Pujan violates the protocol set by the government in times of Covid-19. The petitioner told the court that as many as 300 attendees are expected to turn up. Given this, physical and social distancing will be compromised, the PIL added. He urged in the PIL to direct the UP government to prevent the gathering from taking place.
The court, on its part, has observed that the petition is based on "assumptions". "We do not find any just reason to interfere in the matter," it added.
Meanwhile, the VHP is planning to draw soil from major pilgrim spots and water from all the rivers of India for the temple inauguration ceremony.
