K.Bala, the district secretary of the Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) had filed a case on March 24th seeking the highest punishment to Kamal Haasan for alleged derogatory remarks about the Mahabharatha in a televised interview.

The case came up for hearing yesterday and the judge dismissed the petition on the grounds that it had no prima facie to prove the charges. K.Balu is known for filing petitions against celebrities like Khushbu and the judge slapped a fine of Rupees ten thousand to be paid to the account of removing karuvelam trees. The Ulaganayagan has welcomed the court's decision stating that it is a turning point for those who have rights to freedom of speech.
