As per experts, India has behaved like a world-class country in coming to the rescue of Indian nationals in foreign countries severely affected by Coronavirus. Here is a glimpse of what the government has managed to do in the last few weeks. "When there were only 50 cases in China, India started thermal screenings. Even before 1st death in India, it cancelled visas. And it has successfully evacuated Indians across the globe," says Varun Jhaveri, a bureaucrat. States like Karnataka have managed the problem efficiently by proactively imposing restrictions in public places. Telangana has performed admirably, for example.
Commenting on the way the Indian government has set up a lab in Iran, besides carrying out other measures in the wake of COVID-19's outbreak, columnist Somnath Mukherjee says, "Over the last 10-15 years, we have ensured that a plane, a frigate, a bus or indeed a friendly intermediary is there every time an Indian is under threat. That's first world mindset and capacity."
As per economic commentator Rupa Subrahmanya, India has always had some stellar examples to show for itself. "Gulf War 1: More one lakh Indians evacuated. Operation Sukhoon 2006: Indian Navy evacuated 2280 people (Indians+Sri Lankans+ Nepalese) from war-torn Lebanon. Operation Safe Homecoming: 15,000 Indians evacuated from the Libyan Civil War," she writes.
