The past few days saw new COVID 19 cases in Tamil Nadu well over the six thousand mark but today there is a sharp decline with 5864 reported today. The total number of cases in the state now stands at 2,39,978. The death toll has risen to 3838 with 97 new deaths which is the highest single-day spike ever since the virus started spreading.

Chennai seems to have settled down at the average of the past couple of weeks and 1175 news cases reported in the past twenty-four hours. The date for the other districts are Chengalpet, Coimbatore and Thiruvallur- 300+ cases while Kanyakumari, Madurai, Ranipet, Theni, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli and Virudhunagar- 200+ cases.

On the positive side 59,437 persons were tested today in TN taking up that total number of tests past the 25 lakh mark which is the highest in the country. 5295 patients were discharged taking up the total number of recoveries to 1,78,178.
