Expect Covid-19 to peak around June - July in India: AIIMS director

Even as India reported over 3600 cases on Wednesday, the central government has claimed that the country has successfully been able to control the transmission of the novel coronavirus while increasing the recovery rate to almost 20 percent, further adding that the nation has almost flattened the curve.

The Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi has mentioned that the peak of the coronavirus situation is yet to arrive, and it is likely to happen around June - July. According to modelling data and the way our cases are increasing, it is likely that the peak can come in June and July. But, there are many variables and with time only we will know how much they are effective and the effect of extending the lockdown, Dr. Randeep Guleria reportedly stated. The next four to six weeks will be very, very important because the lockdown cannot be there forever. The focus now should be to identify spots that are showing a spike in cases and turn them into containment zones, he further added.

A total of 4827 cases of Covid-19 have been registered in Tamil Nadu so far, while 53186 cases have been confirmed across India. Tamil Nadu has reported 35 deaths while 1790 people have succumbed to the illness across the country.
