Inspector Madhanalogan from Tirupattur Taluk Police Station detained bike riders who were not wearing helmets for 20 minutes outside the station, in order to advise them. A video clip of the cop talking to the riders about the importance of wearing a helmet and the recent deaths related to this is doing the rounds on social media.
In this video, the policeman tells the bikers that he has seen 15 deaths of motorists within the span of two months within his station limits. A majority of them were due to failure to wear a helmet. He asks the bikers who would replace them if they die. The reason for the noncompliance to the rules appears to be due to lack of awareness. AS Alauddin, a Tirupattur-based rights activist and coordinator of the Anti-Corruption Awareness Movement reported that helmets are as necessary on a small nearby street as a highway. This is because when one’s head hits the ground, it is with 10 times the impact of the speed of the bike, due to gravity.
Inspector Madhanalogan, considering the pain of family members who lose their loved ones to accidents, took his valuable time to bring about awareness on Thursday. He also warned the bikers of stringent action if they fail to follow the rules in the hope that they would change.
