"The Mumbai Film City, which is 20 times the size of the proposed Aarey car depot, lies right at the edge of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Mumbai can be so much greener by demolishing Film City and afforesting the entire area," says social media influencer Aashish Chandorkar. What is the issue all about?
Well, it's related to the #SaveAarey campaign launched by activists, NGOs and some Bollywood film celebs. The last of these have been trolled decisively on social media by various sections of Netizens.
The Aarey colony's 2,700 trees in Mumbai have been cut down for the famous Mumbai Metro project. This has caused frustration among Bollywoodians like Karan Johar, Dia Mirza and Varun Dhawan.
Those in favour of the Mumbai Metro and cutting down of Aarey forest are arguing that Bollywoodians have no moral right to outrage over environmental damage that Aarey destruction will cause. The Mumbai Film City allegedly was built after the removal of one lakh trees.
"Bollywoodiyas make a living off working near Aarey where they reach in their diesel guzzling high-end AC cars and "pollute" the area. Today they are against the Metro and want people to suffer," says Ashu Muglikar.
