Controversy over awarding Majnu Warrier blows up

Actress Manju Warrier was recently declared as the winner of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy Award this year. The declaration was followed by a spate of criticisms against the committee which made this decision. Dancers and other art and culture organisations had protested this decision citing more talented dancers in the fray who were overlooked for the award.
Joining the controversy is national award winning director Vinod Mankara. He is the first person from the film fraternity to voice his dissent regarding the award. He made it known that the committee's decision is shameful. He added that other dancers and artistes who has dedicated their life for dance should fight for their rights and that he would stand by them. Manju Warrier has been named for this award ahead of renounced dancers including Kuchuppudi artist Sreelekshmi Govardhan.
