It is known that the Indian government, suddenly has plans of regulating content on digital platforms. Not just OTTs, but social media and online news as well.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, which regulates and censors print newspapers, television, films and theatre, will also have jurisdiction, under the new order, over digital news and entertainment platforms in India.

Video streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime are to be subject to state regulation and this latest progress raising fears of increased censorship of digital media.

There’s a reason why many upcoming filmmakers are looking forward to releasing their content on OTTs only. On these platforms, one doesn’t have to censor they wanna say or show. Unlike the two and a half hour film, they can explore the storyline and angle in a web series.

Directors can retain the intensity of the story, dialogue and emotion as well. He can play around the story, show things in his own perspective and do a lot more on OTTs.

And now, with censorship by government, OTTs might likely lose their essence and of course what they are known for. With so many modifications and alterations to it, people might not show interest in watching the content at all.

Well, a final word from the government on the same is awaited.
