With Sonia Gandhi becoming the Interim President of the Congress party, there have been sharp reactions from some quarters. The Gandhi family and other Congress leaders had made it appear that a non-Gandhi would be its President after Rahul Gandhi resigned a few weeks ago. But, for now, it's back to square one.
Trolling the party, Shehzad Jai Hindi said, "Whatever I said since Gujarat elections when Rahul Gandhi was coronated as President has come true! This is not a party but a family firm! Rahul said President should be outside the family! Was a blatant lie!"
However, voices from within the party are expectedly jubilant. Shashi Tharoor said, "The Congress WorkingCommittee for making the best decision in current circumstances, requesting Smt Sonia Gandhi ji to take over as Interim President pending the election of a regular Pres by the AICC. Let elections allow Party workers to decide who should lead them." Another Congress leader, Salman Nizami, tweeted out, "Sonia Gandhi ji suffered pains in silence. Husband, mother-in-law killed. But maintained dignity. She made her unique place in India's politics where women are booed. Without anybody by her side, she persevered & WON. Best decision."
