With the GDP growth rate being negative in FY21, the Congres party has torn into the Narendra Modi government. The principal Opposition party has lashed out at the NDA government over the shrunken size of the economy.
"PM’s hall of shame. Minimum GDP. Maximum Unemployment," tweeted Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday, sharing a graph which gave the unemployment figures.
Separately, former Union Minister P Chidambaram said that the GDP in 2020-21 is lower than the GDP in 2018-19. Calling 2020-21 the darkest year of the economy in four decades, he added that the current state of the economy is not only due to the impact of the pandemic but has also been compounded by the incompetent economic management of the government.
Meanwhile, BJP leaders are focusing on the fact that the GDP growth rate in the fourth quarter of the last financial year was positive. In fact, it exceeded all expectations. Even in the third quarter of the year, the growth rate was positive. The economy was on a rebound before the second wave hit India this Summer. With most of India under lockdown, the growth rate in the first quarter of FY22 is expected to be negative.
