The Modi government has let a 23-member delegation of European Union Members of Parliament make a visit to Kashmir today. The MPs will see "first-hand the ground situation" there in view of several false media reports claiming that liberties have been curtailed since the abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Congress party has blasted the Centre over the development. "MPs from Europe are welcome to go on a guided tour of Jammu & Kashmir while Indian MPs are banned and denied entry. There is something very wrong with that," said Rahul Gandhi.
Anand Sharma told a news agency: "This is disrespect to the sovereignty of the Indian parliament. The government must answer why it violated parliamentary privileges, the relevant Parliamentary committee was not briefed on this."
There is a criticism that most of the MPs from the EU belong to far-right parties. So, they are expected to give a positive report.
