Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, who is leading in his constituency by a huge margin, expressed his disappointment at the loss of his party in the Lok Sabha elections, stating that he felt like a batsman who scored a century while his team lost.
“As my lead nears 50,000 with 72% counted, I feel like a batsman who has scored a century while his team has lost! It’s a bittersweet emotion I will take some time to reflect on,” Tharoor posted after he won with a lead over 50,000 votes in Thiruvananthapuram over NDA candidate Kummanam Rajasekharan. The tweet was posted right after trends showed that the BJP-led NDA was almost certain to cross 300 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha and Narendra Modi was set to become the first non-Congress Prime Minister to return to power after a full five-year term.
“Together we grow. Together we prosper. Together we will build a strong and inclusive India. India wins yet again! #VijayiBharat,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on his Twitter page after his massive victory was made official.
