Proud of Joseph Vijay for upholding his identity - P. Chidambaram

The controversy over BJP leader H. Raja calling out Vijay's name as Joseph Vijay and implying that he is a Christian speaking against Modi in 'Mersal' has put the issue on the national media which has also resulted in the film gaining further mileage at the box office.
Many politicians like Rahul Gandhi, Mafoi Pandiarajan and others have voiced their dissent . Senior congress leader and ex-finance minister, P. Chidambaram has lauded Vijay for upholding his identity and flashing his name as Joseph Vijay and the fact that he is a Christian. He has stated that when someone tries to shame somebody for their identity it is ones duty to rise against it and Vijay has done so.
