Republic TV's Arnab Goswami has alleged that he and his wife were last night attacked by two bike-bound "goons" of Youth Congress from Maharashtra. They got saved, thanks to their security guards, on their way home at 12:15 am.

Soon after he reached his residence, Arnab released a video clip in which he is heard accusing Sonia Gandhi of trying to muzzle and intimidate him. "You are the biggest coward in the country right now," the top journalist, known for his anti-Congress stances, says in the now-viral video.

What is the background?

Two days ago, Arnab referred to Sonia as an Italian and suggested that the two Hindu saints who were lynched to death in Palghar in Maharashtra deserve justice from the Uddhav Thackeray-led government in the State. Since Congress party is a ruling party in Maharashtra, Arnab held Sonia accountable for the lynching of Hindu saints. "Why has Sonia not condemned the lynching till now?" Arnab asked repeatedly during a prime time debate.

BJP to back Arnab:

Sections of BJP members have started backing Arnab. "Strongly deplore Congress goons' attack on Arnab Goswami. I was on last night's debate on the communal lynching of Hindu sants in Palghar. For asking questions on Congress's silence on heinous crime, Sonia Cong unleashes Italian mafia-style terror," GVL Narasimha Rao tweeted out on Thursday.
