The Election Commission of India has sought a report from the Ahmedabad District Polling Officer in Gujarat on the Congress Party’s complaint against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Congress says Modi indulged in campaigning against the code of conduct in place when he voted yesterday during the second phase of polling.
Congress says Modi violated the code of conduct before and after he cast his votes at a polling booth. Modi waved to the people in the queue and later took out a procession after casting his vote, which is against the code of conduct to be adhered to strictly by all political parties, the Congress Party has complained.
Congress has alleged that Modi had grossly violated the code by going in a procession soon after casting his votes. It also accused the Election Commission of ‘dancing to the BJP’s tunes’. Congress demand action to be taken against the Prime Minister for having violated the code of conduct. It also held protests outside the office of the State Election Commission in Gandhinagar.
BJP countered Congress’ complaints when its leaders met the Election Commission officials personally in New Delhi and offered explanation. The team of BJP leaders including Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, P.V. Choudhary, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Nirmala Sitharaman met Election Commission officials in this regard.
