Former Chief Election Commissioner of India, known for introducing lots of reforms in the election processduring his terms, had passed away yesterday after a cardiac arrest in Chennai. The 86 year old most respected bureaucrat was the election commissioner between 1990-96.
It was said that his demise was unexpected, and he had dinner and slept and passed away at 9:45 PM. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted "Shri TN Seshan was an outstanding civil servant. He served India with utmost diligence and integrity. His efforts towards electoral reforms have made our democracy stronger and more participative. Pained by his demise. Om Shanti."
Actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Haasan tweeted "TN Seshan will be remembered as an embodiment of courage & conviction. It was he who brought the powerful role of the “Election Commission” into the drawing room discussion of the Common Man." and expressed his condolences.
