A complaint has been registered against BJP MP and former cricketer Gautam Gambhir for allegedly hoarding Fabiflu - an anti-viral medicine used to treat mild to moderate Covid-19 disease under emergency conditions.
A social activist from Delhi, identified as Leher Sethi, filed the complaint after Gautam Gambhir posted a tweet asking people to collect Fabiflu for free from the MP office. "People of East Delhi can get 'Fabiflu' from MP office (2, Jagriti Enclave) for FREE between 10-5. Kindly get Aadhar & prescription," Gautam Gambhir's tweet read. Alleging that Gambhir was hoarding the medicine, Leher Sethi mentioned in her statement that the medicine was not available at pharmacies. "I have filed a complaint against @GautamGambhir for hoarding Fabiflu at a time when Delhi Residents are scrambling for it! This is deeply concerning also b'cos Pharmacies & chemists provide medication to patients 24/7 while Mr Gambhir is only making it avaiable from 10 am-5 pm," Leher Sethi posted on Twitter alongside a copy of the complaint.
However, Gautam Gambhir has denied the allegations and said that he was helping out people in need of the medicines. "If a few 100 strips of tablets obtained from a distributor are being given for free, then, can it be called hoarding? Is my obtaining a few strips of Fabiflu causing the shortage? You can call me wrong but I'll do everything to save lives of people," Gambhir was reportedly quoted as saying.
