Kannada actor Chetan Kumar is facing a police complaint for allegedly making demeaning remarks against the Brahmin community. The other day, he quoted Ambedkar as saying that Brahminism is a negation of the spirit of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity and that Brahminism has to be uprooted. Chetan also quoted Periyar, the Tamil social reformer.
It's reported that, in an Instagram post, Chetan called out Brahminism for allegedly killing the ideas of the Kannada social reformer Basava and Gautama Buddha, who came to be seen as an avatar of Lord Vishnu by Hindus.
Karnataka State Brahmin Development Board Chairman HS Sachidananda Murthy alleged that the Sandalwood actor made derogatory comments against the Brahmin community and that he called Brahmins terrorists. He further said that Chetan's comments are unacceptable.
Demanding an unconditional apology from Chetan, the Brahmin leader alleged that Chetan has made the comments for publicity.
In his bio on Twitter, Chetan describes himself as an activist fighting for art, equality and justice. He is known for making video statements and reaching out to his followers.
