Family members of legendary actor, Telugu Desam founder and former chief minister N.T. Rama Rao will on Monday take part in the release of a commemorative Rs100 coin featuring him, in New Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu will release the coin. The year is being marked as NTR’s birth centenary.
Upon the Central government’s invitation to NTR’s family, TDP chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu decided to attend the event and reached Delhi on Sunday night. NTR’s sons and daughters, and their respective families, including AP BJP chief Daggubati Purandeswari, will be in attendance.
While it is unclear whether actors Junior NTR and Kalyan Ram will be present, many celebrities associated with NTR are expected to attend the launch.
The NTR coin has been issued by the Central government to commemorate his centenary birth celebrations. The Rs100 coin has a diameter of 44 mm and is composed of 50 per cent silver, 40 per cent copper, 5 per cent nickel, and 5 per cent zinc.
One side of the coin features three lions and the Ashoka Chakra, while the other side has NTR’s picture with the wording ‘Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao Satajayanti’ engraved, in Hindi, below it. The coin is marked with the years 1923-2023 to signify NTR’s centenary celebrations.
However, AP Telugu and Sanskrit Academy chairperson and wife of late NTR, Nandamuri Lakshmi Parvathi did not get an invite. She also complained to President Murmu and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman but in vain. Reportedly, the coin is made by using 40 percent silver 5 percent Zinc and 5 percent Nikhil and its actual cost is said to around Rs 3500 to Rs 4000.
News is also that the coin is available in the market at mint Museum in Hyderabad and at a place behind Sachivalayam at 10 AM from August 29th onwards. Incidentally, the coins were developed and released around 12000 at first phase.
