The incident of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at 94th Academy Awards has sparked debates and discussions throughout the film fraternity. Several Bollywood stars have also talked about the incident and shared their take on the matter on social media. For the unversed, Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock, who was hosting the Oscars, after he made a joke about Will's wife Jada Pinkett Smith's disease.
Actress Sonam Kapoor criticised Chris Rock for making fun of Jada's disease by sharing a post that read, "In a world where women’s beauty is often tied to hair, it makes her situation especially delicate. Chris Rock or any comedian should not make someone’s looks their punchline, be it hair, weight, height etc. When comedians make jokes by belittling or offending someone, it is called punching down."
However, she condemned Will Smith's action by associating them with toxic masculinity. The post read, "Is physical assault the appropriate response? Also no. No matter how wrong or offensive a person is, assaulting them is a crime. This is the core problem with toxic masculinity.”
Veteran actor Paresh Rawal also tweeted about the matter and sided with Chris Rock. His tweet read, "Comedians are in Danger everywhere , be it Chris or Zelensky !!!”
