Combined collections of KHJJS, RC2, PGRO fail to cross 10 crores mark

There have been box office debacles and there would be box office debacles. However the one as evidenced in case of 'Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey' is totally unbelievable. In a year where 'Kites', 'Raavan' and 'Guzaarish' have been termed as disasters despite collections ranging between 30 crores - 50 crores, what can one say about this film where the opening week was not even 5 crores? Let alone giving a thumbs-down to the film, audience just didn't even step in even though there were a handful of good reviews that came the film's way.

As things stand today, the film is the biggest box office failure of the year with hardly any theaters playing it in the second week. For both Ashutosh Gowariker as well as Abhishek Bachchan, it has been the biggest setback ever in all the films that they have made over the years.

'Rakht Charitra 2' has proven to be a disaster at the box office. The film failed on the first day itself and refused to pick up any further, hence resulting in collections under 3 crores. This time around, the Tamil version too didn't much escalation even though it opened well. Resultantly, the combined collections of both 'Rakht Charitra' and 'Rakht Charitra 2' have just managed to make the film a plus affair but that's about it. From the perception perspective though, especially in the Hindi belt, the film is a huge flop.

Amongst all the three releases, 'Phas Gaye Re Obama' saw maximum appreciation and relatively better footfalls coming its way. The word of mouth was good as well which succeeded in this Subhash Kapoor film to stay consistent at the box office over the weekdays as well. This resulted in a little over 2 crores coming in for this small budget film which has now helped the film to be a coverage affair at the least.

To give due credit to the exhibitors, they have tried to accommodate 'Phas Gaye Re Obama' despite big releases like 'No Problem' and 'Band Baaja Baaraat', hence creating an opportunity for a sustained run. Still, due to the fact that there are multiple releases in weeks to come as well, it would be interesting to see how far does this Rajat Kapoor, Manu Rishi and Neha Dhupia starrer travel from here.
