While on this occasion its usual norm to take a journey through those films which have blended Holi theme in its stories, we take a different route to highlight the tone of colours in films; like, how colours form an integral part of them, how films are remembered for their vibrancy and include variety of shades. Navrang - Colours of Passion & Fantasy - In those days, this classic film was a rage when colour films were just born. People had look up the big screens with awe and wonder at the splash of the colours, dance and music. Going by the story of the film, it revolved around a husband’s poetic dream world and his practical wife.

Guide - Colours of Self Respect - This Dev Anand and Waheeda Rahman superhit on screen drama unfolded variety of colours; not only about music and dance but also - colours of emotions, colours of trust, colours of faith, (true) colours of relationships and colours of life.

Hum Aapke Hai Kaun - Colours of Family & Relationships - Life is celebration and Sooraj Barjatya had been ace in his profession by mixing in typical flavours of family, its members, emotional elements, love, ups and downs; nicely decorating it with heavy dose of music and dance - in all the movie showcased a burst of different colours on screen.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai - Colours of Friendship & Love - Karan Johar created blockbuster with this campus love story not only in terms of superhit cast and script but also by filling his screen canvas with colourful costumes (introducing big brands like Polo, DKNY in film), colourful and lavish setting - but topping it with colours of best friends and lovers.

Devdas - Colours of Emotions & Sacrifice - Grandeur, magnificent, vibrant, loud, variety... Who can blend in all these colourful ingredients better than Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Most of his movies are sparkling gems which not only boast of dramatic story but also about lavish sets. He aptly uses the colour tones and shades for backdrops to suit the storyline. Devdas is one such example.

Rang De Basanti - Colours of Patriotism & Modern India - The title itself speaks about colours. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra chalked out a movie that revives the spirit of patriotism among youth. It speaks about the history of nation and valour of freedom fighters; but without being preachy.

Munnabhai - Colours of Humanity & Being Right - Rajkumar Hirani and his team used their on-screen ‘pichkaari’ to throw some light on some social issues in a very casual, bindaas way. Through both the movie series, they made audience to realise the ‘bhaang’ of corruption and inhumanity which affected a common man.

Taare Zameen Par - Colours of Innocence & Individuality - Kiddie movie and the palate of this Aamir Khan venture has been brimming full with Darsheel Safary’s colourful imaginative world on one side and dull, stark reality on the other side. While the first part of the film had been wearing the shades of bright joy and freedom, the second part dipped into dull, heart-touching tones.

Band Baaja Baaraat - Colours of Business - Going with the plot, wedding and colours went hand in hand in the movie. In went the shades of romance and business which brought a twist in the story. Cast - spirited Ranveer Singh and bubbly Anushka Sharma - were the ones who along with director Maneesh Sharma, painted the screen fabulously with their masaledaar chemistry.

‘Queen’ - Colours of Womanhood - While ‘Kahaani’ spoke about Naari Shakti and her sweet revenge, the latest Vikas Bahl’s vehicle ‘Queen’ celebrated the spirit of womanhood and her freedom in modern times. ‘Queen’ aka Kangana Ranaut portrayed the very essence of being free and enjoying the true colours of life on her own without depending on her Man. So that makes this movie enter this list.
