When 30-year-old Rajeswari left for work on Monday morning, little would she have known that the recklessness of another person would cause her to lose one of her legs. She is the sole breadwinner of the family, and her parents are now left helpless, in addition to being miserable over their daughter's unfortunate accident.

Rajeswari came under the wheels of a lorry early Monday morning while trying to avoid a falling flagpole, reportedly set up by the AIADMK on a highway (according to witnesses), although an FIR has been registered against the lorry driver for rash driving. She suffered fractures on both her legs after the vehicle's front wheel rammed over them, and her left leg has now been amputated at the knee. Rajeswari is still in the ICU of a local private hospital. She lives in Singanallur, and is the only daughter of Naganathan and Chitra.

"Rajeswari has undergone a 7-hour marathon surgery and continues to be on life support/ICU requiring multiple operations over the course of the coming weeks and bed rest for at least a year. Doctors are striving to recover one of her legs at this time with nerves damaged/cut and infection spreading to her thighs. My cousin's family comes for a very small closely-knit family and stay in a small rented house. Their income/they will not be able to afford the prolonged treatment Rajeshwari may require with very little insurance coverage which may only last for a couple of days (sic)," the 30-year-old's cousin's statement on the crowdfunding platform, Milaap, read.

He further added, "My uncle is old and not working anywhere and is already having his own medical conditions and age that has prevented him from working anywhere for a couple of years now. He is over 60 years. My aunt, a very cheerful and positive lady, who has never complained about anything, has been wanting to be independent has been trying to take up odd/temporary/ short duration jobs as a cook when possible so as to not depend on their daughter's income and make ends meet."

Any amount of contribution from your end will help the family retain some amount of hope in their dire and dreadful situation.
