In a shocking case of job crisis, a total number of 7000 graduates from streams including engineering, arts, sciences, as well as post-graduate students have applied for 549 posts of sanitation workers in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore.
7000 applicants had appeared for a three-day interview and the certificate verification process for 549 posts of grade-1 sanitary workers and based on verification, it was determined that the majority of them were graduates from different streams. "On verification, it was found that nearly 70 per cent of the candidates have completed SSLC, the minimum qualification, and most of them were engineers, postgraduates, graduates and diploma-holders," a report from a news agency mentioned.
A starting salary of Rs. 15,700 per month for 6 hours a day had reportedly attracted the overqualified students to apply for the job, who would've otherwise been receiving Rs. 6000 - Rs. 7000 per month at private firms after working 12 hours a day with no job security.
