The Govt. of Tamil Nadu has told the High Court of Madras that the dreaded disease ‘dengue’ has been included in the chief-minister’s medical insurance scheme recently.

Suriyaprakasam of Chennai had earlier filed a petition with the High Court of Madras requesting it to direct the State Govt. of Tamil Nadu to immediately include ‘dengue’ in the list of diseases covered under the chief-minister’s health insurance scheme covering people. The Court took up the interrogation in the case yesterday.

Govt. of Tamil Nadu filed a report with the court stating that dengue has been added in the list of diseases covered under the chief-minister’s medical insurance scheme. The report further said that Rs.13.95 crores have been allocated for eliminating the ‘mosquito menace’ in various parts of the State and assured the Court that 837 blood-testing equipment worth Rs.23.50 crores had been given to medical teams to conduct the ‘dengue test’.

“125 dengue test centres have been set up across the State which has in stock 2,000 kgs of substance to make ‘Nilavembu water’ which has the potential to arrest the spread of dengue. Dengue patients admitted to various private hospitals in the State would also be covered under the chief-minister’s medical insurance scheme,” the Govt.’s report filed with the High Court said further.
