Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has written a letter to prime minister Narendra Modi demanding censorship for OTT platforms such as Amazon prime and Netflix, citing that OTTs are responsible for the increasing violence and crimes against women and children.
While there are no accurate rules for the content on streaming sites, the chief minister in his letter has mentioned that the availability of inappropriate content without any censorship is unacceptable, Kumar and has demanded the PM to take steps to bring programmes coming on streaming platforms within the certification under the Cinematograph Act, 1952.
Nitish Kumar has also reportedly mentioned in his letter that the production and broadcast of these streaming platform programmes with obscene and violent content should be made a crime which can be punished. It must be noted that in December Nitish Kumar had written a letter to PM Modi demanding censorship of websites with inappropriate content and pornography.
