Tamil Nadu chief-minister Edapadi K. Palaniswami called on Governor Banwarilal Purohit at the latter’s Raj Bhawan office yesterday in Chennai.
The meeting of the chief-minister with the Governor assumes significance in view of the protest-mania which has gripped the State as people have been protesting either against the State for closure of Sterlite Industries in Tuticorin District or against the Centre for its not-so-caring attitude in (not) setting up a Cauvery Management Board to supervise sharing of Cauvery water by Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Neutrino issue has also become a reason for people to protest across the State, thus throwing normal life out of gear in several Districts including Chennai. Chief-minister Palaniswami held a consultation meeting with high-ranking civil and police officials yesterday to assess the law and order scenario in the face of increasing protests.
His meeting with Governor Purohit, during when he was accompanied by deputy chief-minister O. Panneerselvam and Minister Jayakumar, lasted close to an hour. Emerging out of Raj Bhawan after the meeting, the chief-minister said that he only apprised the Governor about the prevailing scenario in the State in the backdrop of plenty of on-going protests held with various objectives.
