Classmates

Life in a college campus is always fun. It is full of blithe spirit and enthusiasm. It is also the happening ground for intrigue and drama.

Classmates, a remake of a Malayalam hit of the same name, hopes to showcase these qualities. Classmates is verily a film on the natural drama in the life of students. It also talks about the bond of friendship that binds them all together in happy bonhomie.

Classmates in Malayalam was some sort of a cult movie as it found an instant approval from the young masses. The thing that worked was that it captured the sense of fun among the young even as they come to terms with the rites of passage of growing up.

Director K Vijay Bhaskar nods in agreement when asked whether the Telugu remake will manage to do that.

Sumanth plays the hero. He is the right fit to the character as he has the intensity in his eyes to do justice to the lead character. Sada is the heroine. Kamalinee is also playing an important role. Sarwanand plays a guitarist. His death is what sparks all the drama amidst the fun.

The film is a frothy college campus story with enough intrigues and suspense. A murder of a student adds to the drama.

The film revolves around the lives of a few friends who get together after a decade, when invited by parents of their late classmate. The script goes back and forth in time to reveal their college days, twists and turns in their lives. Since it deals with students, a major portion has been canned in a college campus. Arakku, Hyderabad and Vizag have been the shooting locations.

Sumanth says this is a new kind of film and has been pleasure to be part of the team. Kamalinee and Sada have inspiring roles.

Sravanthi Ravi Kishore is the producer.

The director and producer had a few years back successfully remade another Malayalam cult classic named Niram as Nuvve Kavali.

The film has music from Koti.The Malayalam original had some uplifting music. Koti has worked overtime to replicate the same here too.
