The Congress Party has demanded the immediate resignation of Amit Shah as the BJP’s national president after it was accused in sections of the press that Shah’s son Jai Shah had ‘amassed’ properties within a very short span of time.
“Amit Shah’s resignation from the post of BJP president would help in conducting and fair and detailed inquiry into the charges,” says the Congress. A web-site named ‘The Wire’ had earlier carried a detailed articles citing how Jai’s firm amassed 16,00,000 percentage more income than the previous year in 2014-15 and how it closed down the very next year itself. The article has sent strong vibrations across the country.
Jai Shah has announced that he would be suing the website for publishing a ‘wrong’ article about him and his business interests. While speaking to newsmen in New Delhi yesterday, Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma wondered why Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal said things in support of Jai Shah and wondered whether Goyal was a Union Minister or someone acting as Jai Shah’s spokesperson.
Sharma also wondered what was the need for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to keep ‘silence’. Citing the earlier instances of BJP presidents L.K. Advani and Bangaru Laxman putting in their papers when corruption charges were made against them, Sharma said Amit Shah’s resignation alone can guarantee a fair and comprehensive inquiry into his son’s businesses.
In a statement issued, the Congress reminded Modi’s oft-repeated slogan of ‘I won’t take bribe and neither allow others to thrive by taking bribes. In the meantime, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has also ridiculed Modi’s silence ion his Twitter account. “Why does Modi remain silent?” he asked.
