The Producers Council of all the South Indian industries have decided to stop movie releases from the 1st of March as negotiations with the Digital Service Providers in Bengaluru today failed. The service providers offered a price cut from 22500/- per week to 14000/- for a film. Another offer of discounts at weekly and monthly rates were also made which still did not satisfy the producers side.
It may be recalled that almost all theaters in South India are digitalized and the few companies that operate are allegedly displaying a monopolistic attitude which has caused huge losses to the theater owners and the producers. It was decided to stop new movie releases from March 1st but the film fraternity were of the hope that things could be sorted out with the DSPs but unfortunately that did not happen.
