Christopher Nolan is teaming up with Universal Pictures for his upcoming film 'Oppenheimer' which is a biopic of J Robert Oppenheimer, a theoretical physicist remembered as one of the fathers of the atom bomb. This movie will be a drama revolving around the scientist's life, World War II and the creation of the atomic bomb.
Earlier, 'Peaky Blinders' fame Cillian Murphy and 'A Quiet Place' actress Emily Blunt are roped in to play the leads. Cillian Murphy is set to star as J Robert Oppenheimer and Emily Blunt as his wife Katherine. Murphy and the director have worked on his three previous films Batman Begins, Inception and Dunkirk.
Now, the latest news is that the 'Iron Man' actor Robert Downey Jr and 'The Departed' actor Matt Damon have joined the star cast of Nolan's 'Oppenheimer'. It is the first time that the Marvel star Robert and Oscar-winning Matt are working with the famous director. The details of their roles have been kept under wraps.
Oppenheimer is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J Sherwin. Nolan's creative partner and wife Emma Thomas, is producing with Charles Roven of Atlas Entertainment. The project has set the release date as July 21, 2023.
