The Will Smith-Chris Rock slap controversy at the Oscars has arguably been the most talked about event of the year so far. While Will Smith, who also won the Academy Award for Best Actor that night, has already apologized for the ordeal, Chris Rock recently spoke about it at a standup show.
Will Smith had walked up the stage at the event and slapped comedian Chris Rock across the face after the latter made a joke about Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith's hair condition. Chris Rock finally addressed the incident publicly during a standup show at Boston on March 30. He was greeted by the audience with a three-minute standing ovation. “don’t have a bunch of shit about what happened, so if you came to hear that, I have a whole show I wrote before this weekend. I’m still kind of processing what happened. So, at some point I’ll talk about that shit. And it will be serious and funny,” he was quoted as saying.
In a long apology note that he posted on his Instagram page, Will Smith said, “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally. I would like to publicly apologise to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness,” he said.
